SEALIFE Sanctuary Gweek- Seal

The National Seal Sanctuary is located on the beautiful Helford River by the village of Gweek. The Sanctuary has welcomed a pair of Cape fur seals, whose antics will not only delight visitors, they will also help raise awareness of continued hunting of this species in South Africa. Every year thousands of pups are killed for their fur.

The Sanctuary rescues and returns to the wild in the region of 40 stray, sickly or orphaned seal pups every year, and is also home to a number of adult seals and sea lions, plus rescued farm animals and a pair of Asian otters, Thai & Bamboo!

You can also enjoy a close encounter of the marine kind with the rock pool and experience the curious lives of crabs, gobies and blennies. Learn how these creatures survive in an environment submerged twice a day by the tides, being exposed to both weather and predators in between.

A pair of Califronian sea lions are on there way to Gweek this year, Rocky and Pepper will have amazing new surroundings and will be sure to get up to mischief! The brand new Sea Lion Lagoon will be a full house as a pair of Patagonian sea lions will also be joining Rocky and Pepper!

Europe's busiest seal rescue centre will be working at full speed, as usual, there will be lots to see. The Asian short-clawed otters are anxious to meet you all and then there is the Cornish Coast Experience, where visitors can meet inhabitants of our own coastlines.
