Otters

Gweek Otter

The Asian Short-Claw Otters that inhabit the new Otter Creek enclosure at Gweek are the smallest of the worlds 13 species of otter. Bamboo and Thai, the Creeks two residents, originate from the paddy fields of Asia and Indonesia, but now this pair of Short-Claw otters inhabit what was once a duck pond before being converted into an all natural environment that features prominently on Gweeks Nature Trail.

The grace and speed that the Asian Short-Claw otters exhibit under water can now be witnessed, and marveled at, thanks to the under water viewing area that compliments the waterfall and lodge areas of the Creek.

Otter Creek was opened in 2002 and continues to offer visitors to Gweek a sensational account of otter life with talks and displays that help highlight the work being done by local environmental groups on behalf of these enthralling animals.
