Gweek Seal Sanctuary recently made dramatic improvements to it's seal enclosure with the 2004 opening of Seal Bay. A massive re-development that took 2000 concrete blocks, 120 tonnes of cement and four months of labour, Seal Bay was designed as the perfect enclosure for the sanctuarys seals.
Containing 200,000 litres of sea water, the pool and it's enclosure, that now features a beach haul-out area which replicates as near to natural environment as possible, provides the ultimate setting to view the seals in a relaxed setting as the keepers give informative talks and feeding displays.
As Flipper, one of the sanctuarys earliest seals, and Yulelog, one of the most enthusiastic and energetic seals at Gweek, enjoy their all natural surroundings, visitors can now get a face-to-face encounter with them thanks to the new acrylic viewing facilities.
