Weymouth SEA LIFE Centre
The SEA LIFE Park and Marine Sanctuary at Weymouth promises a FANTASTIC day out for all the family.
The Turtle Sanctuary, is an incredibly well equipped facility providing a home and expert care for several captive-bred Green sea turtles originating from the Cayman Islands. A huge Ocean Tank with an underwater walk through tunnel is the perfect opportunity to get a unique view of these ancient creatures and see the kind of things they enjoy getting up to.
A key concern of the SEA LIFE Centre is the conservation of endangered species. The rescue and rehabilitation centre for fresh water terrapins is part of this and gives visitors an insight into the lives of these gorgeous creatures. A unique feature of the Weymouth SEA LIFE Park is the outdoor play area. With water slide, splash pool and water jets for the kids to enjoy on a sunny day. They are reminded what fun water is for us as well as for the fish! The exciting new Splash Lagoon will keep the children occupied for hours while the adults chill-out. This is a feature guaranteed to get you wet, however much you try to dodge the random jets of water.
The Amazone experience takes you on an awesome adventure through one of the world's most spectacular rainforests. Not only is the freshwater display an AMAZING show, but the visitor is plunged into an atmospheric world full of the sights and sounds of a classic jungle environment.
The Seahorse Breeding and Conservation Centre opened a few years ago now and invites the visitor into a world of pioneering breeding and research that has been taking place in Weymouth for a decade. The fantastic sanctuary area includes the small colony of lovable Humboldt penguins, the Asian Short-clawed otters in the Otter Sanctuary and the five adorable seal pups that are unable to survive out in the wild, and are being well looked after here. The spacious pool complex includes a breathtaking underwater observatory and is set in a beautiful landscape with kids entertainments between each display area.
The very popular Tropical Shark Lagoon has been specially developed to house tropical sharks. Inhabitants include black-tipped reef sharks, leopard sharks and nurse sharks and are specifically chosen if they have outgrown their previous homes and have nowhere else to go. In the Tropical Shark Lagoon you can come face to face with the oceans' most successful predators as they circle the sunken wreck in the warm shallows.
Interesting Fact: Did you know that a starfish can re-grow a leg, if one is accidentally damaged? An octopus has blue blood and three hearts to pump it round its body. And the amazing puffer fish can expand to over twice its size when threatened. These are just some of the fascinating facts that there are to learn at the Weymouth Sea Life Park. You'll come away with plenty more of these strange secrets to share with your friends and family after an exciting day out.
